S/4HANA mandates the Business Partner (BP) model. Customers (KNA1) and Vendors (LFA1) from ECC must be converted to Business Partners with appropriate roles. When a party is both a customer AND vendor, they become a single BP with multiple roles - reducing duplicates and providing a unified view.
